Rotherwick is blessed with an ancient church and a local pub. The houses, gardens and fields lie together in a long line on a quiet straight road. Mattingley is yet more dazzling, having some of the best thatched or timbered houses you are likely to see here you take a path across a river and through a mill garden which you can see in full on certain dates. Later, you have the chance to see (with a charge to non-NT members) one of the celebrated small gardens of the county. In between, there are deep woodland, grassy meadows and tree-lined avenues.
