Overview

Hello Everyone

This Sunday we're walking in the Rugeley area on a route devised by leaders John & Jen taking in downtown Rugeley, Wolseley Bridge, Etchinghill, and Slitting Mill on a variety of terrain including canal towpath, open countryside footpaths, woodland tracks, and a bit of road walking to start with. Reasonably flat. Just 5 stiles. Expect some muddy patches after the recent rain.

Fancy it? Excellent! You're most welcome to join us, although if you're brand new to the group it'd be great if you could let us know a day or two beforehand so we can look out for you in the large car park at the start. Cheers!

Registration: 09.45. Walk start: 10.00.  Walk leaders: John & Jen (07803 811563)

Facilities are available at the start within Rugeley Leisure Centre. John & Jen have permission to park here courtesy of the management.

Our own members should note that there is no rendezvous at Hednesford for this local event. Please go direct to the start.

Post walk refreshments to be taken at an appropriate local establishment to be confirmed on the day. 🤔Well I never!

Directions. The start is situated on the southwest side of Rugeley approximately half a mile from the town centre and A460.

From Cannock and Hednesford pick up the A460 (from the Churchbridge island complex if you're arriving via the A5 & M6 J11) and follow the course of the road via Hednesford and continue on until Rugeley. Pass the Rugeley sign and descend towards town. After 0.25 mile straight on at the island and continue for a further 0.5 mile to turn left into Hill Street which is 100 yards past Lea Hall social club on your right.

Once in Hill Street proceed for 150 yards to the junction with Burnthill Lane. Give way here then enter the driveway to the leisure centre car park which is immediately in front of you. Enter the car park proper on the left noting this is a one way system. (If you miss the turn into Hill Street carry on for 300 yards until the pedestrian lights where turn left into Burnthill Lane and double back for a similar distance where the entrance to the leisure centre is set back slightly on your right).

From Stafford and Lichfield directions follow the signs for Rugeley town centre on the A460. At the Miner's island (it has four small statues of coal miners on it) take the turn for Hednesford and Cannock via the A460. Immediately after making this manoeuvre turn right, with care, into Burnthill Lane and continue for 300 yards where the entrance to the leisure centre is set back slightly on your right opposite Hill Street. Proceed to the car park on the left noting that this is a one way system.

If you are sans-nav please refer to the map and/or photo of the final approaches above.
