Overview

Length: 13.5 miles / 21.7 km
Difficulty: Moderate
Walk leader: Beth (07956242703)

Following the success of walking The Ridgeway in 2023, the Chiltern Young Walkers have set themselves a new challenge of walking Shakespeare's Way in 2024!

A 146 mile route that winds its way through the Cotswolds, the Chiltern hills and along the Thames between Shakespeare's Historic Birthplace and The Globe Theatre in London. Its a beautiful fully signposted route that goes through towns such as Chipping Norton, Woodstock and Marlow as well as the beautiful city of Oxford and of course a long section along the River Thames in London. We're kicking the challenge off with a double bill, which you can do either part of as a day trip or stay for an little weekend away!

For this one, we're going to meet at Slough Train Station (Slough Station East car park) and then condense into as few cars as possible and drive to The Broadway car park in Farnham common, where we'll pick up where we left off last time. Once we reach Hayes, we'll jump on a train (just an 11m journey) back to Slough, dropping the ones who drove to Farnham Common back at their cars at the start.

The X74 bus also runs between Slough, Farnham Common and High Wycombe so public transport is also an option!

You're welcome to join us in Farnham Common at 11 instead, but might need to rely on the bus to get back to Farnham Common if there's not space in any of the cars.

Despite heading nearer to London, we will still enjoy some beautiful views, namely through the glorious woods at Black Park Country Park and Stoke Common.  We'll stop for lunch at Langley Country Park and then for a pub stop at Iver, time permitting.

The walk is 13.5 miles but is pretty gentle, and just before we cross under the M25 we'll join the Grand Union Canal, which we'll follow all the way into Hayes, where we'll jump onto a train back to Slough.

Please dress appropriately for the weather, bring a packed lunch and plenty of water.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome but must remain on a lead at all times and are the responsibility of the owner.

It helps us if you to sign up and tell us you're coming. If you sign up and later find out you cannot attend please change your RSVP on Meetup so we're not waiting for you.
