Overview

Walk Description:

NOTE: In total it's just under 11 miles but there's an option which halves that for those who want just a morning jaunt. See later details.

We begin in the heart of historic Sherborne, leaving it behind soon after along mostly good paths through fields, woods and farms. We have one notable climb (in the first half), rising to get fine views of Sherborne’s two castles and lake, as well as panoramas of the gentle hills in this area.

At about 5 miles (roughly 2 hours) we pause just outside Sherborne, allowing any early leavers to depart. Then climbing immediately, we will stop soon after for a lunch break, before then joining the Macmillan Way, edging woodland for a large part along fields and tracks and eventually reaching the streets of Sherborne from the west. Here the plan would be to stop off near the finish for refreshments in a suitable hostelry, then back to the original car park start point.

At this time of year, it is almost certain to be muddy in places - unless it has all frozen!
