Hello Everyone
We have a short local walk coming up this Wednesday evening so if you’ve thought about giving the group a try then here’s a great opportunity. Perhaps you're one of our many Facebook followers, or have been thinking about joining in for ages - we've all done the latter by the way! You don't have to be to be a Ramblers member - just turn up, register (we need to keep an eye how many walkers we have out), and you’re good to go. There’s nothing to pay.
Starting from Castle Ring car park we’ll spend a couple hours around the local area on mainly good paths and tracks with some steady climbs but all taken at a leisurely pace. We'll have a ten minute break around the half-way point. You’ll need sturdy footwear and waterproofs or a brolly since we obviously can‘t guarantee the weather but can compensate for it on the evening itself perhaps with a shortened or more open route if very overcast. We'll see.
Registration: 18.45. Walk start: 19.00 prompt. Walk leader: Barry (07811 141484)
Please note there are no facilities at the start or during the walk itself.
Unfortunately we can't accommodate any dogs, sorry.
For our own members there's no Hednesford rendezvous for this local walk. Please go direct to the start.
Post walk refreshments in the Park Gate Inn.
⚠️🅿️Please note that Castle Ring car park is locked at 21.30.
See you all on Wednesday evening. Fingers crossed for fine weather!
Directions. Most of you will be familiar with the start venue but if not please refer to the map link above. Otherwise satnav is recommended using What3words, or as per below if you're relatively local:
Cannock Wood is best approached off the A5190 Lichfield to Cannock road at Sankey's Corner, Chase Terrace, then via the 1.75 mile dead straight Rugeley Road running due north from Sankey's Corner up Hayfield Hill into Cannock Wood.
Once in the village proceed straight across at the slightly staggered crossroads (with care as this is a blind summit from the left) into Bradwell Lane where continue for 200 yards to turn left into Park Gate Road and follow for 400 yards, passing the Park Gate Inn, to the next crossroads where straight across (with care again) and into the car park. Photos above featuring the final approaches.
