This is an exhilarating 12.75 km / 8 mile circular walk from Aston on Clun. It includes a long, sparsely-populated, very scenic section of the Shropshire Way in one of 'the quietest places under the sun' between Sibdon Carwood and Kempton over the tops of Hopesay Hill. The views on a clear day are glorious, well worth the total 1260 feet of ascent (not taken all at once, there are downhills in between!). Starting from Aston on Clun we pass 3 small villages, an historic church and a famous tree. The route follows the Shropshire Way between Sibdon Carwood and Kempton going through woods, across fields (where there may be cattle), along quiet lanes, old drove roads and bridleways. Some stiles. Meet for a 10:30 start at the Village Hall Car Park (free but donations please), Broome Road, Aston on Clun, SY7 8EH (the hall is adjacent to the signed village community shop). We park in the overflow car park, in field down the track left side of the hall.
Please bring a snack, drink and a packed lunch. Please let the leader know if you would like to request a car share from Telford. This walk is part of the Shropshire Way Festival and non members are especially welcome to come along. NB Dogs are not permitted on Shropshire Festival Walks (except for assistance dogs).
