Leaving the NT car park we start the long ascent of Skirrid. We enjoy the views from the summit before descending and then crossing fields over the A465 to Llanvihangel Crucorney for lunch. Then after some road walking we make a second lesser ascent up to the woodland path alongside Bryn Arw. Descending the hillside we go across fields, the railway and the A465. We return across fields back to the car park.
There is the option to omit the second ascent and reduce the distance to about 8 miles and the grade to M+, but this entails a further period of road walking.
With the current conditions the paths can be muddy and potentially slippery on the slopes, so walking poles and gaiters are advised.
