Join Liam R on an exciting coast to coast walk from Looe to Boscastle over three (or an option of four for some) different Saturdays. The Smugglers' Way is a 38 mile coast to coast walk graded moderate to strenuous: we walk from sea level to Cornwall’s highest point (Brown Willy)- across the open moor- followed by a long slow trek down to the sea at Boscastle. Created and developed by Cornishman Frank Squibb in the Spring of 1994 this is Cornwall’s most imaginative coast to coast walking route. Due to its length we have broken this hike into stages. Each stage is limited to 25 participants and booking is required.
This is Stage 3 - across the open moor from Jamaica Inn to Boscastle, with an option to finish at Davidstow for some. Dogs are welcome but note there will be livestock on the unfenced moor.
[Stage 1 - 18/05/24 - Looe to Dobwalls
Stage 2 - 08/06/24 - Dobwalls to Jamaica Inn]
Booking is essential for this walk.
Book using the email bar and specify whether you want to do 1, 2, 3 or all three stages. Payment (£15 for the coach for EACH stage, 3X£15 = £45 in total) should be made directly into the club's Unity Bank account; details will be sent when you book. If you do not bank online, then cash will be accepted paid to Liam at least two weeks before the date. A waiting list of participants for this popular adventure is likely so the pre-payment is essential to secure your place. You may also use the email bar to request a summary of the leader's information for the whole Smugglers' Way route.
For this stage we will meet in Boscastle and travel by private coach to Jamaica Inn, Bolventor. Cost £15 per person.
We will then walk back to our cars.
The first 7 miles is open moorland walking from peak to peak, then rejoining the road/path network at Davidstow. This route is 16 miles long with most of the 1750ft of ascent occurring the first 6 miles; thereafter it's generally downhill to Boscastle (so graded strenuous overall). There is an alternative finish to this day, see the Stage 4 text below.
Stage 4 (date TBA) - Davidstow to Boscastle. For those who wish to cut short the final 16 mile route there is an option of completing Stage 3 after 10 miles; then finishing the final 6 miles at this later date. Exact details of this stage will be organised closer to the event.
