A gentle stroll of around 3 hours taking in White Edge, Big Moor and returning along the stunning Curbar Edge, with a guide from Derbyshire Natural Tours.
We'll be looking for Red Deer which use the area for their autumn rutting grounds (September to November). Although the rut will be coming to an end there should still be plenty of Deer about and with a bit of luck we'll find one or two big Stags still trying their luck and filling the moors with the atmospheric bellowing.
We'll keep our eyes open for winter visitors of the feathered kind too with November a great month to spot skeins of Pink Footed Geese heading over as well as flocks of Redwing and Fieldfare gathering to feed on the Rowans below Curbar Edge. Peregrine, Kestrel and Raven are all possible and previous autumn walks here have even logged Merlin, Barn Owl, Woodcock and Wheatear.
Walking is mostly on established paths but they can be wet and muddy so walking boots are essential. It can be cold and windy on the moors so please dress accordingly. There are no toilet or cafe facilities so please bring any drinks/snacks you may need. Poor visibility, high winds or heavy rain may lead to postponement or cancellation.
Number is capped at 12 places, so you will need to book your place by emailing socials@ndwg.org.uk. There is a cost of £10 per person, payable by cash on the day.
