Overview

This is a circular walk starting at Tyne Riverside Country Park in Ovingham. The route starts by wending its way through Whittle Dean which is said to be haunted by the ghost of Long Lonkin ( Steeleye Span even have a song about him called Long Lankin.) It heads to Horsely before dropping back towards Wylam, the birthplace of George Stephenson. We cross the Tyne over the splendid Hagg Bridge ( see pic 2) and then head for the Spetchells. This is a man made hill of two and a half million tons of chalk waste. Thankfully it is now a nature reserve.
