We start at the Car Park at Wick where there are toilets.
There is a charge to park in the Car Park but there is usually plenty of free parking available along Wick Lane and adjoining roads.
Our walk starts out heading NW along the Stour Valley Way which might be a little muddy in places. We cross the river on the foot bridge and cut through Jumpers Common and climb up to St. Catherine’s Hill. Here our route turns SE to follow the ridge passing the old water tank and various ancient earth works. We may stop at the trig point to admire the views before descending to eventually join the Avon Valley Path which we follow into Christchurch where we will take a short break for lunch.
We then take the Wick ferry ( costs £1.50 per head) across the Stour and follow the river west towards Hengistbury Head. After admiring more fabulous views we loop back to our start point.
Remember to bring cash for the ferry man!
Note: our group walks quite briskly; this route is demanding of distance for some, but the terrain is not especially challenging. If you have any concerns about fitness/capability please contact the walk leader in advance.
