9 mile walk from Winchester station to Alresford along the valley of the upper Itchen following the St. Swithuns Way. Fairly level on good paths and quiet country lanes.
It's expected that most will meet at Basingstoke station to catch the 10.03 train to Winchester for a 10.25 start from the station there.
Weather forecast is cold (near 0⁰C) with sunny intervals. So come well wrapped up. Very little mud expected. 1 stile possible (the adjacent gate was not locked on the recce). There are some main roads to cross, at safe crossings, at both ends of the route.
We'll have a coffee/snack stop. Bring your own refreshments. Probably at Martyr Worthy church. Lunch is up to each participant. Either bring your own or rely on the many cafes etc in Alresford and Winchester. The plan is to catch the no. 64 bus (every 30 mins) back to the Broadway in Winchester.
