The walk starts at the NT car park near Staunton Harold Reservoir. The walk initially follows the shores of the reservoir to Calke Abbey where there will be an opportunity for toilets and refreshments Then the walk continues to the “old man of Calke”.After paying our respects to this ancient oak tree we continue to the Lime Yard and after passing through an old tramway tunnel the walk continues through the Calke Abbey estates to Staunton Harold. There will be another opportunity for toilets en route. The walk returns to the car park through Dimminsdale nature reserve. There could possibly be an opportunity to see snowdrops in the woods.
The Staunton Reservoir NT circular car park is located in Main Street, Calke. A nearby postcode is LE65 1RR, what three words are: pace.likening.canines. NGR 375 226. There is a £5 car park charge for non NT members. Those walkers not going directly will meet at Spinning School Lane car park Tamworth at 9.30. (B79 7BB). The walk is approx 8.5 miles with an overall ascent 240 metres, but easy going with few stiles and mainly good tracks.
