From the car park close to the Three Locks pub at Stoke Hammond we walk north along the Grand Union Canal before heading up Paper Mill Lane towards Alders Farm fishing lakes. We then pick up and follow the Greensand Ridge Walk through Oak Wood, passing Stockgrove Park House, until Rammamere Heath, a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Privately owned, it has been restored to heathland through a programme of pine and birch removal and sheep grazing.
We cross the road into Stockgrove Country Park where there are public toilets. The route next takes us lakeside through beech woods before a sharp ascent to the Giant Chair and Rushmere Country Park. We will have our lunch stop at the Visitors Centre where hot beverages are available.
After leaving the park we walk down through woods and fields to join the canal. It is then 1.5 miles along the tow path back to the cars.
