SUMMERTIME WALK IN CHATELHERAULT COUNTRY PARK
This is a figure of 8 walk. We will leave from Hamilton Central train station, walk through part the town and residential area before we arrive in Chatelherault Country Park .
Our first stop will be Dukes Monument built in memory of William the 11th, Duke of Hamilton. We then walk on to the ruins of Catzow Castle and from here we cross Dukes Bridge to get up to the visitors centre. From there we walk to Green bridge where we cross the Avon river for our Coffee stop. There is quite an ascent from here as we move onwards. The route takes us back down, crossing the Dukes bridge again, to the visitors centre where we will stop for lunch. There will be time to have a look around the beautiful Chatelherault Hunting Lodge, enjoying the great view from here. There is are restrooms and a cafe at the lodge. From here we walk down to the Old Avon Bridge then along the banks of the Avon river. There are about 200 step to ascend on this part of the walk which take us back up to the Visitors Centre where the walk will end.
Chaterherault train station is a few minutes from the visitors centre where there are trains back to Glasgow Central every 30 minutes at 8 minutes and 38 minutes past the hour .
Meet outside Marks & Spencer’s in Central Station ready to catch the 09:18 to Hamilton Central from platform 16 lower level (arriving 09:45 at Chatelherault)
