This walk is for up to 25 people, including the leader.
A short walk through the southeastern suburbs and outskirts of Hitchin and into the nearby countryside, on the evening of the full Pink Moon.
From Hitchin station we’ll start our walk by ascending Benslow Hill, passing what must be the tallest tree in Hitchin, then detour across Pinehill Field for a view of the countryside we’ll reach later in the evening. Next we cut through Hill View and the Poets Estate before following the chalk stream River Purwell to the edge of town, where we’ll pass some horse paddocks and the site of a Roman bathhouse. Field-edge paths then take us up to a vantage point east of the town where we’ll hope to view the sunset.
We then head through the mixed plantation Wymondley Wood and back to Hitchin via a section of the Greenway, hoping to see on our way the full Pink Moon (named after the colour of a flower which blooms at this time of year).
We’ll return into town as dusk falls. After the walk there’s the option of a drink and perhaps a late supper if desired at a pub along the road from the station.
Please note some parts of this route may be wet or muddy if we’ve had recent rain, in which case walking boots are recommended. You might also wish to bring a torch in case it’s a dark and cloudy evening.
Dogs are welcome on a lead.

Please:
DO NOT book onto a walk unless you are pretty sure you will be able to make it.
