We will complete a circular across Sutton Common via Red Lodge, Hollesley Common, Bussock Woods, Sawpit Covert, Crag Pit, and Broxted House taking in common, heath, woods and field side tracks. Reasonably decent underfoot at time of recce. Some smart new fencing to be admired retaining a small herd of red poll cattle? leading up to Sawpit Covert. No stiles to negotiate just a number of gates.
Apparently Crag Pit, Sutton is a 0.7-hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest north of Shottisham. This small disused quarry is described by Natural England as short rabbit-grazed grassland which supports one of only two British colonies of the endangered Small Alison flowering plants. Herbs include the uncommon mossy stonecrop.
