This is a circular walk through some pretty and varied countryside a few miles north-west of Wimborne.
From Tarrant Monkton we head east up toward a gentle ridge before making a gentle descent along good tracks past a number of woodlands to the hamlet of Manswood. We then follow a mixture of old and new footpaths across open land, arriving at the entrance to the Crichel House estate.
Passing through the impressive gateway to the Crichel House estate, we then head north toward Crichel House, turning east to enjoy the woodlands which border Crichel lake. This leads us onto footpaths bringing us back to the ‘New Town’ (in fact, a small hamlet) of Witchampton, crossing the River Allen near Witchampton Mill.
We then take the opportunity to take in the pretty village of Witchampton, with its cob and thatch cottages, before heading west again past Witchampton church. Our route then leads us back up some gentle tracks to a great viewpoint over the Tarrant Valley, enabling our descent back to Tarrant Monkton.
