Overview

This is circular walk around Thorney Island which was first used by the RAF in 1935 and was a fighter station and base for Coastal Command during the 2nd World War.  In 1984 it was taken over by the Army and the island is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest.  We will walk from the car park, to the Marina and will pick up the Sussex Border path to Longmere Point, St Nicholas Church returning via Stanbury Point back to the start. There are MOD access points where we will need to buzz in and out of certain sections of the walk.  2 stops

The South Street Car Park in Emsworth is a Pay and Display car park and on Sundays the parking charge will be £2.10 for over 4 hours of parking.  The parking meter does accept bank cards to make payment with and is fairly straight forward to use and saves carrying change if preferred.  Payment can also be made via the RingGo app if people wish to pay by that method.  There are toilet facilities in the car park and is also close to the shops and a pub is on the same site called The Coal Exchange.  As it will take approximately an hour to drive there, we have allowed an additional 15 minutes to start the walk at 0945 just in case anybody does get stuck in traffic etc
