This Sunday we're walking around Ticknall and Staunton Harold near Melbourne, a pleasant walk on varied terrain in this picturesque south-west corner of Derbyshire. Reasonably flat with around ten stiles. No rendezvous at Hednesford this week so please make your own way to the start and we'll see you there.
Registration: 09.45. Walk start: 10.00.
If you're new to us and fancy a good walk in good company why not come along and join in? Let us know beforehand though so we can l👀k out for you. Thanks!
Most of us will no doubt end up in the village pub afterwards 'cos that's the way we roll!
Directions (primarily for our own members or anyone approaching via the A38).
The start is located in Ticknall village some 8 miles due east of Burton upon Trent. Various route options exist. A38>A50>A514 provided below is the easiest major road option. Or a few miles shorter via the A38 but exiting slightly earlier at Willington and then over through Repton. More lanes this way. Not much in it timewise.
From your starting point pick up the A38 northbound and onwards past Burton to the A50 intersection where exit slip and right for the A50 eastbound, direction Nottingham. Continue for 5 miles to Junction 3, exit slip and then fourth exit onto the A514 signed for Swadlincote & Melbourne and follow the course of the road for 2.7 miles, over historic Swarkstone Bridge, to Stanton-by-Bridge where turn right signed A514 Ticknall.
Continue for 2 miles on the A514 to enter Ticknall village. Pass through the old tramway arch and proceed for a further 300 yards where turn right into Ingleby Lane. The village hall and car park entrance is 170 yards further up on your left hand side. Satellite screenshot in the photos.
