We are the Hike Essex Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
Starting in central Tiptree we head out to Layer Marney Tower and back.
Layer Marney Tower is an early Tudor country house, with gardens and parkland, dating from about 1523, in Layer Marney, Essex. Though we cannot visit it directly, as it is shut, we will pass close by to get a good view. It is pretty spectacular.
Tiptree is also home to the famous Jam Factory. The tea rooms will be open when we finsh.
It will be very muddy and wet so bring approriate footwear/clothing. Also bring a picnic.
We will cross fields and woods to get to the tower. We then follow country roads to get back to the start.
There are toilets at the start/finish.
Parking is available in the centre of Tiptree in front of Boots The Chemist and Iceland - where the walk starts. Should this be full try the Tesco opposite, where there are some community spaces. Failing that I can point you in the right direction for more spaces.
