From the car park of this historic town we will walk past the ancient church and will get a view of the castle’s remains before descending through fields to a weir on the River Dove. We will follow its banks to a picnic area for our morning break. After crossing a main road we will traverse fields with a view of the Nestle factory across the river in Derbyshire. After several fields, a number of stiles and a short section of road walking, we will arrive at the delightful village of Rolleston-on-Dove where we can eat our picnic lunch by the side of the brook or visit the village pub for a drink. Our return journey takes us through a wooded area with a waterfall, followed by more field paths through a solar farm. The final half mile is through a built up area of Tutbury. There are 14 stiles but only gentle inclines.
