Overview

A five mile 'short and social tea shop ramble' in the beautiful Severn Valley near Bridgnorth. Starting from the restored Daniel's Water Mill on the outskirts of the small village of Eardington, the route includes two historic old water mills and wooded valleys that follow tributaries that descend to the Severn. We walk across gently undulating fields with wide open countryside views and wander through the small Eardington Local Nature Reserve, finishing with a riverside walk along the Severn past a river cliff which once had a castle. There is a relaxing chance to socialise afterwards at the Witch on the Water, a cafe locally famous for its home made cakes.

circular

It's 8.7km/ 5.5 miles and 406 ft/ 124m of ascent, mostly to exit the mill race valley, near the start. Poles are advised after all the rain as the woodland and riverside paths can be very muddy, plus there is a clamber over a silver birch that has come down over a path and another clamber down and up some slippery banks to get in and out of sunken drovers paths or to footbridges in dingles. Although we will walk at a leisurely pace on 'short and socials' this is more of a moderate walk due to the path conditions in places. Bring a snack and a drink but no packed lunch as we will end the walk at The Witch of The Water Tea Rooms at Daniels Mill which serves hot and cold sandwiches, home made soup and cakes. Toilet available at the cafe. Car sharing from our 9.30 departure /meeting place at the Forge Retail Park in Telford is strongly advised as parking is limited at the start of the walk. You must contact the leader in advance for permission if you wish to bring your dog. Please book with the leader before the walk, this is essential if you want to eat afterwards at the cafe or car share.
