A walk on field paths and forest tracks north of Aberangell, visiting the remains of the Minllyn slate quarries and the secluded valley of Blaen y Cwm. Our route heads round the village and follows paths and tracks climbing gradually through woodland to emerge on to the grassy hillside. We continue through fields, descending to Maes y Camlan before tackling the steep climb up into the Minllyn Quarry. After a rest at the quarry, the climb continues to reach a high point of some 390 metres in rough moorland. A grassy path then takes us down into Blaen y Cwm where we soon pick up a track heading down the valley and back to Aberangell.
Please be aware that there are some short sections where the ground is likely to be extremely wet and boggy. There is also a stream to ford which may be swollen after rain. Waterproof footwear is essential and gaiters recommended.”
