Celebrate St Andrew's Day walking along the Union Canal to the Falkirk Wheel and then the Forth and Clyde Canal to the Kelpies - 30 metre high steel horses' heads which in previous years have been lit up blue. The short towpath walk, just over 2 miles, from Falkirk High Station to the Wheel includes going through the 180m Roughcastle Tunnel (lights and a handrail) beneath the Antonine Wall. We should make it in time to stop for tea/coffee at the cafe before it closes at 3.30. Outdoor seating available if you prefer to bring your own refreshments. Another 4 miles along the Forth and Clyde Canal towpath brings us to the Kelpies. Some of this stretch is quite industrial, with limited lighting. It will be dusk and a head torch will be very useful. Have some snacks/drinks to enjoy as we spend time admiring the Kelpies. The last section is a flat 2 mile walk, back through Helix Park and Falkirk, good street lighting, to Falkirk Grahamston station where there are trains to Glasgow every 30 minutes or so. We will aim to catch the 18.17 train.
Bookings for the Kelpies Walk open Friday 15 November.
