This scenic coastal walk along the Firth of Clyde begins at Battery Park in Greenock, following the shoreline through Cardwell Bay to Gourock Pierhead, with beautiful views across the water (on a clear day). The route continues past Gourock Station, the iconic outdoor pool, and along the coast to Cloch Lighthouse, overlooking Holy Loch and Loch Long.
First exit point: Lunderston Bay (approx 5 miles in) – ideal for a lunch stop, with a beach, picnic spots, toilets, and a bus back to Glasgow.
The walk then passes through Ardgowan Woods and arrives at Kip Marina, Scotland’s first marina and a lively hub for sailing.
Second exit point: Inverkip (around 8 miles in) – a historic village with a train back to Glasgow.
The route continues past the site of the former Inverkip Power Station, gently climbing toward North Lodge. A final woodland path leads into Wemyss Bay, where the walk finishes at the Edwardian station with ferries to Rothesay, trains to Glasgow, and a café, pub, and toilets.
The walk is mostly flat, following promenades and pavements. Some sections are shared with cyclists, and there may be occasional uneven areas along the shoreline. Comfortable footwear is recommended for the distance. There are many public toilets along the route.
If you’d like to join the walk, please contact Marjory, by email or text no more than two weeks in advance (from Saturday 28th June). When booking, please also provide a mobile number in case of any last-minute changes.
There will be three stops along the way for snacks and lunch, and at the end of the walk, there’s a pub and cafe right in the station.
