Join us on a circular walk up and over a number of hills behind Largs around Gogo Glen with great views across the Clyde Estuary. Also including a couple of historical sites in the area.
The walk starts with a stroll along the promenade, through some formal gardens followed by a short strenuous climb up a flight of steps to a viewpoint where we will stop for a snack.
The rest of the outward section of the walk is undulating with a couple of steep sections. It goes over Jock’s Castle, Rigging Hill and Paton Hill. Underfoot is typical peat based grass which in a number of places is very boggy and squelchy.
We will have lunch on one of the hill tops.
The inward section of the walk is on Forestry Commission access roads and gravel tracks. The final snack stop will be at Greeto Bridge before we head up the last hill of the day, Auchenmaid Craigs. This hill track also has a number of steps. From there we will descend back down into Largs.
This is a circular walk and we will return to Largs train station from where there is a regular service back to Glasgow. There are plenty of cafes and pubs for a refreshment stop before heading back to Glasgow.
There are toilets at the station and along the Largs Promenade. There is little cover on the hill.
As the hill section can be damp, especially if there has been any rain and there a few boggy sections waterproof boots are a must. If you use walking poles, please bring them with you.
If you wish to come on the walk you must contact the Leader (Sandra) in advance by email or text but not more than two weeks in advance. Also please provide the Leader with a mobile phone number in case arrangements change.
If you’ve not had a response within a couple of days please check your junk mail.
Please notify the leader should you wish to join the group en route or at the starting point in Largs.
Walkers should not come on the walk if they have any symptoms associated with the Covid virus.
