Update on Sunday. I have done a quick recce of part of the walk to check ground conditions. It is certainly quite wet underfoot, but paths are wide and firm and level in the main, so I found no significant problems. There are just a couple of waterlogged spots on the Chase but these can be easily walked around. There's a chance of mist too. However, check again before walk just in case of worsening weather - and wear good footwear in any case!
A walk around Wharncliffe Chase and Woods, from Grenoside to Oughtibridge. From Grenoside, a walk up through Wheata Wood, passes through the carpark and then continues on a good track down towards Wharncliffe Chase. The Chase is surrounded by high walls, and there is a high ladder stile here, but at time of recce, this was bypassed through an open gate. Now it is open country crossing this former deer park, and likely to be wet underfoot, but with nice views all around. Eventually along a farm road to Wharncliffe Farm and Wharncliffe Lodge, where a short detour leads to a lunch spot with a view, on Wharncliffe Crags. Onwards into Wharncliffe Wood and a gradual descent to the finish at Oughtibridge.
No 86 bus, at 10.00 am, from Angel Street CG3, to Grenoside Main Street/Norfolk Hill (outside Angel pub), arrives 10.35. Walk finishes at Oughtibridge for 57/ 57A, approx half-hourly.
