Overview

From the start point we will head out to the Mossy Burn Reservoir before heading for Mennock Hass where we ascend Black Hill and the start of a ridge walk taking in Green Hill, Stood Hill, and Glengabe Hill. Much of the ridge walk is on ATV tracks across tussocky grass. From Glengabe the route follows the Southern Upland Way down into the valley of the Wanlock Water. We will then return to Wanlockhead via the valley on tracks and paths, exploring the mining heritage on the way. Gradients are generally moderate to fairly steep with occasional short steep slopes. At the end of the walk there will be an opportunity to take refreshment at either the Mining Museum Tea Shop or the Wanlockhead Inn, Scotland's highest pub.
