Alongside the reservoir to reach the old turnpike to ascend to the Ramsden Road and down to Cranberry Dam and Allescholes for lunch. Later sees us taking the Rochdale Way over the tops and back down to the Pennine Bridleway and return to Watergrove. Risk assessment: A reasonably gradual ascent. Several stony tracks, one stream crossing, one pathless descent and two stiles needing care.

Watergrove reservoir car park (United Utilities), free. After the Globe Inn on Ramsden Road, Wardle, continue up the rough cobbled road leading to parking (5mpg advised).
