Overview

Hello Everyone

Wonderful Wetton!  That's our destination this Sunday located a few miles northwest of Ashbourne with walk leader Heather. Her route takes in Thor's Cave, the Manifold Valley, then via Throwley Old Hall followed by the high level path back to Wetton. Great views throughout. Lumpy throughout too warranting a Moderate/Strenuous tag. Approximately 20 stiles and a long stone staircase (175 steps) down from Thor's Cave. Poles recommended if you have them.

As always, you're most welcome to join us for a day out. It'd be great if you could let Heather know beforehand if it's your first time with the group, thanks.

Registration: 09.45.  Walk start: 10.00.  Walk leader: Heather (07725 676108)

Loo's available at the start. ⚠️🅿️ Please note we're not parking at the toilets this time to avoid clogging the place up (😂 sorry). Instead we can use the much larger field parking facility nearby. £3 per vehicle.

Pub or cafe afterwards depending on the time.

See you all there on Sunday morning!

Directions. Primarily for our own members or anyone arriving from the south via Ashbourne.

The start is located approximately seven miles northwest of Ashbourne. Best route with the least lanes is via Ashbourne and on to Alstonefield, then a further 1.5 miles from there into Wetton.

To Ashbourne on either the A515 via Sudbury or the B5031 & B5032 via Rocester and Mayfield. Then north on the A515 for a further 5 miles out of Ashbourne, direction Buxton, until the left turn signed for Alstonefield 0.4 mile after the pair of red brick former railway houses on your right hand side.

After turning left continue (with care) for 2 miles to enter Alstonefield village. Follow the road through, past the loo's on your left, then turn acute left 75 yards later signed for Wetton. Proceed for 150 yards to the village hall on your right, and follow the road out and then downhill for 0.6 mile where turn right in the dip signed again for Wetton.

From this point follow the course of the road for 1 mile, through the various bends and narrow sections, to enter Wetton village. At the T-junction turn right, then after 75 yards turn left into Carr Lane. Continue along Carr Lane past the toilets to then turn right into the field entrance gate 50 yards after the junction with School Lane. Satellite pic of the final approaches above to aid you.

In field parking off Carr Lane, Wetton, Staffordshire. Honesty Box on the entrance gate at £3 per vehicle please, thank you. Better to use this (and benefit the local enterprising farmer) rather than hog the nearby toilet block car park.
