Overview

This walk starts at the highest point in the Cranborne Chase – the Bronze Age barrow at Win Green. We take in spectacular views as we follow the Wessex Ridgeway down past watercress beds in the Nadder valley and on to Ludwell. We then head West along rural footpaths and minor roads into the centre of the ancient town of Shaftesbury where we will stop for a lunch break. Next we drop down the steep, cobbled, Gold Hill famously featured in the 1970s Hovis bread television advert. Heading South then East we pass through farmland to Cann Common and Charlton villages then South East back to Win Green.

The walk follows some minor roads for short distances – care is needed.

Moderate, some climbs.

Bring drinks, snacks and a packed lunch to keep you going.

All walkers are responsible for their own health and fitness to undertake this walk

Check the weather forecast beforehand and dress appropriately; layers, waterproofs, and good waterproof walking foot ware are recommended. In the event of heavy rain this week, there could be some wet, slippery and muddy stretches.

No dogs except RAD.

Non-members welcome (Ramblers have a limit of three group walks as a non-member)

Booking not required, but please check the ramblers website the night before, as very occasionally we need to make last minute changes.  Please use SMS / Whatsapp for further info.  For problems on the morning of the walk phone Graham on 07837 633171.
