Witton Gilbert & Langley Park
An undulating, moderate, walk of 8.5 miles on mixed terrain, starting in Witton Gilbert, with many opportunities for views over the valleys.
There's a chance of seeing alpacas as we start on a downward path to the burn. A gentle incline , leading to a steeper hill brings us to super views over Langley Park & Witton Gilbert. Then downhill to see the Old Witton Station, and walk along the flat Lanchester Valley Way, passing the entrance to Diggerland. We will hopefully have our lunch overlooking the burn, before working our way along an uphill stretch, with the opportunity to see the ruins of Langley Hall, almost hidden in the woods. A further walk gently uphill (where we were chased by sheep, farmer & sheepdog on the recce!), until we arrive at Broomhouse Farm. Here we get to see animals (it is a working farm), perhaps goats, chickens, pigs etc. All the remainder of the walk is downhill or on the flat, through lovely countryside, country lanes and fields, as we drop down to Witton Gilbert and back to our cars.
There are 6 stiles, and significant uphill paths (rewarded by the views). Care will need to be taken along a couple of short stretches along grass verges of a busy road.
There will also be an offer of a short walk.
