Join our welcoming and friendly Group for some pleasant, relaxing, easy-paced walk and chat in the pastures on the broad, flat Vale of Montgomery, beneath the imposing ruins of Montgomery Castle and the always visible beacon of the County War Memorial. You will be served wonderful views all around of the hills surrounding this naturally lower lying area.
Starting within the Principality at Montgomery (Trefaldwyn), the route crosses both the current national and historic Offa's Dyke border through rich arable farmland and occasional woodland. We will circle as far as the delightful village of Chirbury in Shropshire with its noted 12th century St Michael's Church and interesting collection of Conservation Area buildings.
The route passes the ruins of Lymore Hall and its surrounding estate and also traverses the attractive Marrington Dingle, a narrow glacially-created gorge
Predominantly flat, there is one short steep hill and a couple of small sections along quiet roads.
We are a very gregarious lot and welcome and encourage walkers from outside our Group (if so please contact me by the email link). As always we will have an 'elevenses' break as well as a lunch stop so bring your packed lunches (there are no shopping facilities en route).
Toilet facilities are available in Montgomery (Trefaldwyn) (behind the town hall) five minutes walk from the start / end point.
Any late changes, including weather related or similar will be communicated via the group WhatsApp or via the submitted email.
