A linear walk mainly along the Itchen/St James Way to Eastleigh. From the car park we enter Riverside park on a tarmac path alongside the river. After crossing the river and going under the motorway we enter the water meadows nature reserve of the Itchen Valley Country Park and make our way to the Woodland Cafe for a morning stop. We retrace our steps a short way to continue through the water meadows to then rejoin the Itchen Way to Bishopstoke Road.
Return to the car park is by the no 2 bus (every 15 mins) either from the nearby bus stop or the bus station in Eastleigh to the Woodmill Lane stop (takes about 30 mins) and then a short walk back down Woodmill Lane.
There are nettles on parts of the path but they are passable with a shimmy and there are a few places where the path is eroded but perfectly doable with care.
Dogs must be on leads whilst we are in the nature reserve. The Itchen Way after the reserve is too narrow for dogs to be off lead mixing with a number of walkers.
