Hello Everyone
Another figure-of-eight walk coming up this Sunday with Pam & Lorna at the helm. This type of event suits everyone; complete the initial 5 mile circuit and call it a day, or carry on for the full 9 miles via a different loop. In this case we're heading north up to the summit of the Weaver Hills, before dropping back into Wooton for lunch following which we'll go south-west into rolling countryside passing by the impressive Wooton Lodge en route back to base for a well earned ice cream, cold drink, coffee, or whatever you fancy from the Dalton's kiosk.
This is a Moderate grade walk overall, but does begin with a strenuous climb up the Weavers, albeit before the main heat of the day. Mainly on good footpaths and tracks throughout with some quiet lanes. Approximately 15 stiles.
As always, everyone is welcome to join us, although if this is your very first time with the group we'd appreciate it if you could let us know beforehand please. Thank you.
Registration: 09.30. Walk start: 09.45. Walk leaders: Pam (07788 633754) Lorna (07538 725252)
⚠️☀️A very warm day is forecast - please come prepared. Please also note we may amend the mileage to compensate and if so will endeavour to advise on here beforehand if you care to check back before Sunday.
Facilities available at the start courtesy of Dalton's Dairy.
Suggested car sharing costs from Hednesford are £3 per person assuming three occupants per vehicle.
Post walk refreshments at Dalton's who have been kind enough to allow us to park on their land and use their facilities.
See you all there on Sunday morning!
Directions primarily for our own members or anyone approaching from the south via Uttoxeter, the A50, and ultimately the B5032 into Ellastone.
From Hednesford via the A460 to Rugeley where straight on at the Miners island to pick up the B5013 signed for Uttoxeter. Follow this road for approximately 12 miles to turn right at Blounts Green onto the A518 for 0.5 mile to reach Uttoxeter itself.
Continue on the A518 around the eastern side of the town by carefully following the multiple signage at the islands for Rocester B5030, which is ultimately joined by turning right at the last island shortly after crossing the A50 overbridge.
Proceed on the B5030, over two islands, and bypass Rocester. After passing the JCB plant on your left continue straight on at the next island, still B5030 (later merging seamlessly into the B5032), signed for Ashbourne, and proceed for 3 miles to reach Ellastone.
In Ellastone village turn left shortly after the Duncombe Arms pub, signed for Wooton, and follow the course of this road uphill for 1.5 miles to Wooton village. Take care at the sharp (20mph) left hand bend after which proceed for 150 yards, past Dalton's Dairy entrance on your right, to turn right again into Gidacre Lane, signed for the cricket club.
Once in Gidacre Lane turn left after just 50 yards into Dalton's Dairy overflow parking area, actually a field with plenty of space. Please don't park in the small farm shop car park on the other side of the road. Thank you.
