Waypoints

1

Leave the woods and turn right along the road over Bellever Bridge, straddling the East Dart River. After a few yards, turn left and go north east across slowly rising ground beside a small stream which flows into the main river. Keep to the path with the stream on the left to reach the very small hamlet of Pizwell.

2

Follow the track from Pizwell due north up to Runnage bridge. Cross the bridge and go along the road for a short distance. Take track on left into Soussons Wood and continue on this path over two crossing paths, On meeting a narrow road, turn right and follow it with the wood on the right. Before long exit the wood through a gate on to a small road at Ephraim's Pinch.

3

Turn right along a narrow but easy path for a couple of hundred yards to meet an intersecting bridlepath. Here turn left and follow it across open grazing land and passing Cator Common. Leave the bridleway when it reaches a narrow country lane. Here turn left and follow the lane passing the road junction to Middle Cator.

4

After the road junction, where the road swings south east, leave the road and continue onto moorland maintaining a southerly direction. Continue on to Corndon Down.Continue ahead to the cairn. From here climb up to another cairn. Here turn left and go across to Corndon Tor.

5

From Corndon Tor go south west across roughish moor before picking up an easier path which goes west towards Yar Tor. There is a memorial cross en route. (A) Cross a small road and head up towards Yar Tor (sitting at 400 metres.) From Yar Tor descend steeply towards the East Dart below. Dartmeet, a local beauty spot, where the East and West Dart join together, is below. Continue down hill aiming for the Badger's Holt Car Park. (A) A cross perched on top of an outcrop below Corndon Tor. Erected in memory of Lieut. Evelyn Cave Penney who was killed during World War 1 in Palestine.

6

Turn right and walk along the bank of the East Dart River. After about half a mile north of Badger's Holt the main river veers west. Continue along the side of a brook, ignoring some stepping stones and following along the east side of the brook until reaching a very small clapper bridge. Just beyond the bridge, turn left to follow a small road for a short distance and then take the track up towards the moor again passing Babeny Farm and stables

7

Follow the track up towards the moors heading north west before it descends towards Laughter Hole House on the other side of the East Dart River by some stepping stones. Do not cross these but continue along the river bank back to Bellever Bridge, passing Whiteslade, about a third of the way along. (B) Cross the bridge and turn left back to the start (B) Whiteslade (Snaily House) It is in fact a derelict cottage, fifty yards back from the river where two sisters lived. They apparently lived on a diet mainly consisting of snails and little else.
