Waypoints

1

With your back to the car park head right along the tarmac lane. At the end of the lane, continue straight on along the path towards the sea bank, climbing steps to reach the top of the bank. Turn left and follow the path along the top of the sea bank, following the bank as it bends to the left and ignoring a path on the right signed to Witham Mouth. The path to the left leads to East Hide. [A] Sea Bank Viewpoint From the sea bank, you’ll be treated to panoramic views over FramptonMarsh, including one of the largest expanses of saltmarsh in the world. In winter, this area is home to thousands of Brent geese.[B] East Hide. Look out for avocets pacing gracefully in the shallows and ducks dabbling for food.

2

Approx. 150 metres beyond the Witham Mouth route, at a junction of paths, bear right to continue along the sea bank and Macmillan Way. After 1km the path makes a sharp s-bend then crosses a culvert at a pumping station. Continue to follow the banks of The Haven, through a gate and past a track leading to a farm, for 1.2 km. [C] The Pilgrim Fathers Memorial is a small granite obelisk mounted on a granite block. It is a memorial to the Pilgrim Fathers of Scrooby who, in 1607 attempted to sail for Holland in a bid to escape religious persecution. They were precursors of the Pilgrims who were some of the earliest European settlers in America.

3

Shortly after reaching the end of a row of tall trees take steps down to a gate leading to a path to the left perpendicular to the river, along the side of agricultural fields. Follow the path between fields for approx. 700 metres until you approach a farmhouse.

4

At a junction of paths, next to the farm, turn left. Cross a farm track and continue straight ahead along the bank past a pill box. Continue to follow the path on the bank, as it runs beside a road. At a track and junction of paths walk straight on along the bank top, passing another pill box. At the end of the bank, at a road, walk straight ahead along the road to return to the visitor centre.
