Bus 24 between Louth and Horncastle. By car, park on East Road near St Mary’s Church.

Waypoints

1

START With St Mary’s church on your R, turn L along North Street. Ignore a fork to the L and turn R at the junction, following the road out of the village.

2

As the road turns sharply R, continue straight on to follow a public footpath along a track. From here, the route follows the path of an old Roman road past Glebe Farm. Cross a small wooden bridge and follow the path as it bears R. The route stays flat for now, but the gently rolling hills of the Wolds rise ahead. Signposts indicate L onto a public bridleway, directing R then L around the farm buildings and out onto a minor road, watching out for traffic.

3

Turn L and follow the road up into Belchford. Continue straight on at the junction, passing the church on your L.

4

Turn L onto Dams Lane just before the Bluebell Inn. Here, the route joins the Viking Way, indicated by a yellow waymarker with a black viking helmet. Shortly after Dams Lane becomes a track, turn L through a wooden gate. From here, the route undulates, giving views across the Wolds, rising through a grassy field into Fulletby.

5

Turn L along School Lane then keep L, leaving the Viking Way behind. Follow Paradise Lane gently uphill before turning L onto High Street, and L again at the road junction (signposted Tetford).

6

Shortly after the junction, take the public footpath by Gorse Farm on the R, crossing a stile and heading downhill over a small wooden bridge. Continue straight on with the woodland of Salmonby Carr on your R. The route leads through pretty meadows, over another wooden bridge and past a lake on your L.

7

At Beck House, turn L along a grassy track, L along a road, and L again at the next junction (signposted Fulletby). Take the road out of Salmonby until you reach a public footpath on the R. Follow it alongside a thick hedgerow, then turn R onto a road, and continue on the public footpath which comes almost immediately into view on the L. This leads all the way back into Tetford, at which point turn L at the road, then R up a small flight of steps to cross a field. Continue straight on along a residential street, then turn L past the White Hart Inn to return to East Road and the start.
