Overview

A monthly wellbeing walk on the last Sunday of the month specifically for the LGBTQ+ community of Sandwell. West Smethwick Park is a community green space and hub nestled in the heart of Smethwick.  First opened in 1895, the park was purchased as a ‘gift to the public forever’ by the Victorian industrialist Sir James Timmins Chance and has since been the focus of a large restoration project aiming to conserve and restore the Victorian heritage of the Park.  This includes the Grade II listed James Chance Memorial, the ornate fountain and two sets of entrance gates. The walk will begin outside the new Pavilion and follow a circuit along an undulating path around the periphery of the park, taking in the lake, tree lined belts and well-maintained grass areas. This gentle amble will conclude with a visit to the Pavilion where there are toilet facilities and a café for drinks, snacks and an opportunity to chat.

The paths and Pavilion are wheelchair accessible and all are welcome irrespective of fitness level and there are plenty of benches along the route which offer potential stop points.  So if you want to walk for health reasons, connect with people and/or make new friends, then this friendly walk is for you.
