Walking in and around North London & South Herts

Most members of North London and South Herts (NLSH) Ramblers live in Barnet, Enfield and Potters Bar, from where we have easy access to the beautiful and varied countryside of Hertfordshire, the Chilterns and Essex.

On Sundays we usually offer a short walk of between 5 and 8 miles, and a long walk of between 10 and 14 miles. On two Wednesdays each month we have a leisurely social walk of 3 to 4 miles, and we occasionally organise mid-week short and long walks. Car sharing is usually available for our long walks (check the walk description for details).

Our walks are as varied as our members but most are of moderate difficulty, in undulating to hilly terrain. If you haven't done much walking for a while, we'd suggest you start with one of our short or social walks.

In addition to our walks programme, we also arrange: -

  • Occasional days out for walks further afield, which we reach by train or coach.
  • Two or three social gatherings each year, including a group Christmas lunch.
  • Group holidays: in recent years these have been to Northumberland, Pembrokeshire and, most recently, the Elan Valley and Cambrian Mountains in Wales.

So why not join us, we’d love to meet you!

Campaign with us - protect the places we walk

Walking is a simple pleasure that should be open to everyone, so we campaign to remove barriers to walking and we protect the places we love to wander.
