Starting place: NT car park at Alderley Edge, SK10 4UB
We will starting at the mining museum and I will give a quick overview of the plan for today for the walk and then the visit below ground. The mornings walk will be approx 3 miles exploring the legend of the wizard and how it originated in the Bronze Age. It will be on the main paths but will be narrow in places with exposed tree roots. Then we will have lunch.
In the afternoon we will go underground into Engine Vein looking at all phases of mining on the Edge from the Bronze Age through to the Victorians and including the Romans. There will be good photo opportunities but beware there will be sand and water present so phones and cameras taken at your own risk. There is no crawling but just a bit of stooping in places. Helmets and light will be provided for everyone. Also donations to the Caving Club will be most welcome. This also includes insurance!
For more information on what to expect you can go to their website on
www.derbyscc.org.uk and follow the links to Alderley Edge mines/visiting. There is plenty of photos and information there.
There will be no need for people to carry rucksacks around with them in the morning except maybe to carry a drink, and no rucksacks can be taken down the mine.
Lunch can be left in the car to pick up when at the end of the walk.
PLEASE NOTE....This walk is limited to 14 underground, so it will be first come first served.
Booking is directly with Elaine, her mobile no. 07801 632743
If there is enough demand for this walk and cave event then I can organise a repeat of this later on in the year.
