Overview

We will start by roping ourselves together for the stiff climb up the west face of Whatcombe Road before emerging into open countryside with fine views towards Cranmore Tower and Ammerdown. Then we descend into Vallis Vale and follow the Egford Brook to Bedlam before tracking the Mells Stream up to Great Elm. Here we climb out of the narrow valley and track to the old Frome to Radstock railway line, where we follow the latest section to open as a path, as far as Hapsford. Here we return to the Mells Stream and walk past Murtry aqueduct to Orchardleigh. Look out for otters and beavers as you gambol through the wild garlic (you won’t see them but they are there!) We return to the start by crossing Spring Gardens and follow another new section of cycle path back to Whatcombe Fields. Bring snack.
