Overview

We will meet in the car park between Yatton Keynell village hall and the playing field. The first stretch of the walk is fairly level and follows an old quarry track to Long Dean through a pleasant valley. We shall then follow a circular route around to Ford and back. The stretch to Ford does involve crossing a field with sheep. It is part of the Macmillan Way. From Ford, we will climb up to a minor road. This is the steepest ascent but lovely views from the top as you emerge from the valley. We then follow the road until it meets the footpath that descends to the ford across Broadmead Brook. We follow the Brook to Nettleton Mill House and cross the Golf course into the picturesque village of Castle Combe. Bring provisions for two stops.  Public toilets are available at Castle Combe. From here we return to Long Dean and retrace our steps back to Yatton.  Bring lunch.
