Maldon and Dengie Ramblers' TA (Tuesday alternative) walks are normally between five and seven miles long and are circular walks.
This walk starts at Lodge Road car park in Woodham Ferrers (not South Woodham Ferrers) and goes towards Hanningfield and back.
Originally a hermitage during the reign of Henry II, the name Woodham was adopted in 1175 when it became a priory, including 60 acres of forest stretching towards Danbury.[2]
The Bishop of York owned a house in the village. It was attacked during the Peasants' Revolt in 1381.
