Overview

From the Penicuik House car park, walk past the ruined house and cross North River Esk. The path passes through South Bank Wood. It will be very muddy in places. Moderate ascent but nothing steep. Lovely views across the valley. Also to the Ramsay monument. On reaching Penicuik we cross the Esk and return by a very pleasant path beside the river. As there is no suitable coffee shop in the area we will have a 3rd tea break just before the end of the walk.
