Much of this walk is quite level, especially after the lunch stop, however there are some ascents and descents, stiles, and patches of mud.
An interesting walk through varied terrain with some good views.
We take town paths to leave Princes Risborough, crossing the Ridgeway path, then along fields past Pyrtle Spring. There are good views approaching Loosley Row, we climb the hill along the pavement, into the village. We pass the windmill (minus sails as they await restoration) which is on the edge where the village merges into Lacey Green, through Widmer Equestrian Farm, a mercifully short stretch of Grimms Ditch, along the edge of woodland, (avoiding most of the wet mud lower in the Lily Bottom valley) down to the pretty Highwood Bottom, before climbing up the charming Turnip End with more lovely views and a docile Shire horse or two. Across fields of grass to the school field at Lacey Green for packed lunch with logs to sit on. Afterwards we make our way through the churchyard and along village roads to Loosley Row and on to Saunderton Tunnel. We surprisingly walk South on a tiny stretch of the ridgeway before switching NNW as we walk in between two railway lines which are actually in an attractive area of countryside. We pass through Saunderton and past Horsenden House, then past Ercol and back into town to The Mount Carpark.
Optional refreshments afterwards in Princes Risborough.
