The ramble traverses forest and open downland with respite at the historic village green in East Dean, before heading briefly into Friston Forest and then pursuing some newer and interesing National Trust trails with vistas of the Cuckmere Valley. The route then heads just inland from the coastal path but retaining extensive coastal views before a lunch stop at Birling Gap and then returning to the starting point via Hodcombe and Bullock Down Farms to Warren Hill.
