Autumn 2025 sees the sixth edition of the re-launched National Young Ramblers Weekend (NYR) event, bringing together Ramblers members in their 20s, 30s, 40s, and those who are young at heart from across Great Britain for a weekend of walking and socialising.
This year the event is based in Manchester, with walks exploring the city and its surroundings.
Many Stag Walkers members have been to past NYR weekends and had a great time!
The 2025 weekend is organised by MAD Walkers, the younger Ramblers group for Manchester and District, and takes place from Friday 24 October to Sunday 26 October.
Bookings are now open!
Book direct on the NYR website: nyrweekend.org.uk (N.B. you must be a Ramblers member).
We've set up our own Stag Walkers event page for members to see who else is going and who might like to arrange travel or accommodation together. RSVP by clicking the 'Attend' button on the Stag Walkers Meetup event page.
The weekend includes a choice of walks, plus social events - see the rough schedule below.
Accommodation:
You'll need to book accommodation yourself in or near central Manchester and it's recommended that you do this ASAP.
The organisers recommend the options below:
- YHA Castlefield
Budget-friendly hostel accommodation in the historic Castlefield area.
- EasyHotel
Modern budget hotel in the city centre, close to Piccadilly station and the Northern Quarter.
- Travelodge
Affordable hotel chain with multiple locations across Manchester city centre.
- Premier Inn
Comfortable budget hotel with excellent locations throughout Manchester city centre.
You could also try AirBNB or Trivago, Booking dot com, etc.
Transport for most of the weekend walks will depart from Piccadilly and Victoria stations, so you may wish to try and find accommodation nearby, if possible.
Transport:
Travel from North Herts takes around 3.5 to 4.5 hours by car or train. If you are planning to drive, please consider offering a lift to other walkers.
You won't need a car to enjoy the weekend, so why not take the train? Group discounts may be available for 10 or more people travelling from the same station. It's also recommended to buy advance train tickets as far ahead as possible.
If travelling on Avanti West Coast from London Euston, Watford Junction or Milton Keynes Central, there's a special discount available for Ramblers mmebers.
Once you arrive, the city’s tram and bus networks have contactless tap-on/off.
Join the Ramblers:
To attend the NYR weekend you must be a Ramblers member. For details of how to join the Ramblers and how much it costs please visit the Ramblers website.
If you're new to the Ramblers, you can try three group walks before you're asked to purchase membership. Why not come for a walk with Stag Walkers and see if it's for you?
Rough schedule:
Friday evening
Meet and greet in central Manchester, followed by a self-guided treasure hunt to find 16 colourful monsters hiding round the city centre. A good chance to get familiar with the city and meet some fellow Ramblers!
Saturday daytime
A host of walks to choose from round Manchester and its surroundings. The exact walks are yet to be confirmed but destinations may include the Peak District, Cheshire and the West Pennine Moors. Walks will be accessible by public transport; please see the MAD Walkers website for details.
Saturday evening
A social event in Manchester city centre where you can mingle with walking friends old and new. This will be a paid event with separate sign-up and tickets available closer to the date.
Sunday
Shorter walks round the city centre, before you head off home; options might include historic canals, hidden green spaces or skyline viewpoints.
