Overview

Join Havant Borough Tree Wardens for a walk in The Queen's Inclosure, a remnant of the Forest of Bere managed by Forestry England, as part of the Tree Council’s Spring in Your Step campaign.https://treecouncil.org.uk/seasonal-campaigns/spring-in-your-step/

The Queen’s Inclosure is described as a plantation on an ancient woodland site and covers 40 hectares (100 acres) of mainly oak with some yew, hazel and small numbers of other species.  There are small areas of secondary woodland on the east and west edges.  The habitat is classified in a 2001 biodiversity survey as semi-natural broadleaved woodland.  According to the survey report there are 35 ancient woodland indicators.  Species recorded include all three woodpeckers, nuthatches, sparrowhawks, common cow-wheat, golden rod, five different speedwells and wild service tree.  Other birds are regularly seen and heard.
